Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is a great honor for the Czech Society of Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Metabolic Care to host such a distinguished Congress as the 29th ESPEN, which is to take place in Prague from 8th to 11th September, 2007.
Prague is proud of its famous history, including the foundation of one of the oldest universities in Europe by Charles IV, Czech King and Roman Emperor, a great supporter of science and education in the Czech Kingdom, in 1348.

Another period of flowering of sciences and arts took place about 1600 under the Emperor Rudolph II, who invited distinguished scientists and artists from all over Europe. Regardless of their ethnic and cultural environments, they excelled in creating works of great cultural and artistic value. Prague also became the home of many distinguished personalities, such as Jan Evangelista Purkynje, Albert Einstein, Alfons Mucha, Franz Kafka, and many others.

We would like to link up with this tradition by organizing the 29th ESPEN Congress, and show that the genius loci of Prague is still alive.

The scientific programme is thus concentrating on attractive topics linking science and practice, presented by the best experts from all over the world. The scientific and educational programmes of the Congress reflect the developments in metabolism and nutrition, both in traditional fields as well as in new and emerging areas. The ESPEN Committee and the Local Organizing Committee have worked hard to harmonize the programme of the Congress to represent both basic research and its clinical applications, and to encourage new knowledge to be put into practical use.
You will also have the great opportunity to experience nice social events. Lying in the heart of Europe, Prague has often been not only place of historical ordeals, but also of inspiration, creativity and progress. In the vicinity of the capital city, there are also many interesting spots representing both the past and the present history of our country as well as unforgettable places of scenic beauty.
Nutrition is not only a common thread in the etiology or management of many diseases, but it also brings together specialists from across the spectrum of clinical activities, and from the most basic to the most applied.
As the present divided world needs cooperation and good will between nations as well as in medicine, let our common motto become: «Nutrition - integrating medicine».
The Local Organizing Committee as well as the Scientific and the Educational Committees are doing their best to prove that Prague will be an excellent site for the 2007 ESPEN Congress.
We are looking forward to meeting you in Prague!
